David Moore (MSc Palaeontology/Geology) Site Coordinator
David’s lifelong fascination with science began at an early age. As a child, he collected rocks and fossils in eastern Canada. As a University student, David studied History, Economics and Geography eventually returning to his first love, and moved to Alberta to study Geology at the University of Calgary. While undertaking his M.Sc. in Biostratigraphy in 1996, he began guiding for the Burgess Shale Foundation.
Teaching has always been a passion for David. Working in the energy industry David found his niche teaching courses on hydrocarbons, Geology and economics. David enjoyed a successful career exploring for unconventional gas in Canada and around the world. He has taught popular courses on palaeontology, evolution and unconventional gas in Canada, has presented at numerous technical conferences and has lectured on Earth and Life History to academic and general audiences. In 2023 David’s career took a different path as he began working at Telus Spark putting his love of science and teaching to the forefront. In addition to continuing to work full time for Telus Spark and Open Minds in 2025 David has been appointed the Managing Director of the Burgess Shale Geoscience Foundation.
