Healthy Living School
How can we help our young people live healthier, happier lives today and in the future?
Healthy Living School focuses on the many ways active living contributes to a vibrant community and highlights kid’s roles within that community. Teachers and students will be immersed in the spirit of the YMCA, where all are welcome and belong. Tied in with their core values of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility, the experiences at Healthy Living School, will develop and build capacity for students to belong, grow, thrive, and lead.
Through a holistic approach to well-being, students will discover a sense of self that builds strong communities and sparks a lifelong commitment to improving quality of life.
Ideas for inspiration could include:
- Discovering Story: what are the stories in our community?
- Examining community: what is the impact of healthy living?
- Exploring play: how and where do people play?
- Engaging in active and healthy living

Morgan Fong
Before joining the Open Minds team, Morgan was actively involved in the success of YMCA camps where she developed a passion for engaging active youth. She is passionate about encouraging youth to discover their own sense of self through curiosity and learning through body, mind and spirit. Through this, she is excited to partner with teachers to provide an experience that connects students with their community.

Grace Jenkins
Prior to working with Calgary Campus Open Minds, Grace facilitated outdoor programming for Summer Camp and Outdoor Living School programs at Camp Chief Hector YMCA. Her experience brings both her love for the outdoors and passion for supporting community through exploration, learning and play together to create a wholistic and engaging experience. She is excited to both facilitate and learn alongside students and teachers to support a better understanding of self and connection to our surrounding environment and community.
