Applications for the 2026-2027 School year are due on Wednesday May 6, 2026.

Teachers find out the status of their application on Thursday May 21, 2026.

Applications are now available for the 2026 – 2027 school year.

Campus Calgary/Open Minds is an award-winning program that provides authentic learning experiences to transform teaching and learning by increasing engagement through community, funder, and educational partnerships. Creating personalized and flexible learning programs for each student, Campus Calgary/Open Minds provides a dynamic learning experience by connecting students in the community for five days and connecting them to experts who are passionate about experiential learning.​

Applications for the 2026 – 2027 School Year:

Teachers – please read the following and ensure you have everything complete before submitting your application.

1. Teacher applications require Principal support and:

  • acknowledgement of participation for the 2026-2027 school year, 
  • costs are $1500/week for CBE and CCSD Schools and $1800 for independent schools,
  • that you need to meet your district’s volunteer ratio for participation.

2. Ensure you have all required information ready before you start the google application form. Please have your Application Supporting Document complete as you will need to submit it within this google form.

3. Your Campus Calgary / Open Minds Application Supporting Document, that is part of the application process, includes the following and will be submitted within your google application. Ensure you have shared your intentions and have included responses / answers to all 5 questions.

  1. What is your Big Idea or Question or Provocation and how do you see this influencing your year’s work?
  2. What do you hope and/or want students to come to understand as part of this Campus Calgary / Open Minds experience?
  3. Campus Calgary / Open Minds is just as much for teachers as it is for students. With that in mind, what do you want to come to understand as part of this CC/OM experience?
  4. Why this site? How do you anticipate this site supporting your big question/idea/provocation and your students’ yearlong learning?
  5. Tell us about your students and school community.

*NOTE: How you layout/organize this information is up to you.

**NOTE: If you are an experienced Campus Calgary / Open Minds teacher with at least 2 CC/OM experiences, you can indicate that you’re interested in piloting one of our Pilot Sites for the coming year on the google application. The 2 pilot sites are: Contemporary Calgary Art Studio and Outdoor Leadership School (at Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park). If you would like to indicate your interest in piloting – please check this off on your google application AND share briefly about why you’re interested in piloting a site in question D (Why this site?), along with your preferred first choice site.

4. Applications are either for a Single Site or Multiple Sites.

*NOTE: If you are more than 2 teachers on the same team wanting to go to the same site – you MUST contact the site coordinator asking if they are able to accommodate more than 2 classes from the same team at their site. All coordinator contact information can be found on this website under site information.

5. Submit the google form, ensuring your Application Supporting Document is attached within this google form by Wednesday May 6, 2026 (11:59 p.m.). Teachers find out acceptance status on Thursday May 21, 2026.

CBE Teachers  

For CBE teachers, please be logged into your CBE google accounts (educbe) before starting. Your username will be the same as your username@cbe.ab.ca account but will require the educbe.ca suffix. The CBE google application form is found here: https://forms.gle/VDQT5xQ7pA94wNQM9

CCSD Teachers  

For CCSD teachers, please be logged into your CCSD google accounts (learn) before starting. Note your username will be the same as your username@cssd.ab.ca account but will require the learn.cssd.ab.ca suffix. The CCSD google application form is found here: https://forms.gle/3pFzjmrSGp7EzMQK9

Independents/Charters or CBE/CCSD teachers unable to access district accounts

Cost of Program

We are grateful for the support of community and funder partners who put this program within reach of all Calgary teachers and students. Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School District schools pay $1500 and all other Calgary schools pay $1800 (bussing included).

This is a heavily subsidized program with actual costs being about $5000 - $8000 per week.

Please note: CCSD schools participating in 2School – An Urban Experience, will be responsible for the cost of transportation to and from the program. Please contact Kevin DeForge or Marta Albertin to discuss funding options.

  • Spring Inservice - Site Specific Welcome (after school in June) – initial opportunity for site familiarization, sharing of expectations, and development of working relationships. (dates TBD)
  • Summer Workshop - A Day on Site (early July or end of August) – Immersion at the site and discovery of the rich learning opportunities available at each site 
  • Fall Pedagogy Evening - Journalling Workshop (after school evening in September) – Immersion in and practising the CC/OM philosophy and journalling 
  • Practice and Preparation at School (ongoing) 
  • Planning Meeting (after school at your school, 6-8 weeks prior to being on site) – In collaboration with CC/OM Operations Team and Site Coordinator to connect the classroom to the community creating a personalized week 
  • Scheduling Meeting (2 -3 weeks prior to being on site) – Finalize the schedule for the week and discussions of roles and responsibilities
