CBE's Campus Calgary/Open Minds program and partners shine on global stage

The Calgary Board of Education accepted two Global Best Awards for the Campus Calgary/Open Minds (CC/OM) program on Sept. 27 in South Africa.

Supported by The Conference Board of Canada, the International Education Business Partnership Network and MiET Africa, the Global Best Awards celebrate outstanding and effective business, education and community organization partnerships that have a significant impact on their communities.

CC/OM was recognized with an award for partnerships which demonstrate capacity building, leadership and innovation for the Americas. What’s more, the program was also honoured with the overall 2012 Global Best Award for the Americas.

“The Conference Board of Canada is pleased to recognize Campus Calgary/Open Minds as a most worthy recipient of the 2012 Global Best Award,” says Diana MacKay, director, education, health and immigration programs at the Conference Board of Canada. “This educational model, led by the Calgary Board of Education and supported throughout the City of Calgary, demonstrates the best of community, business, and educational partnerships.”

This innovative program enriches student learning by taking students outside the classroom to the various CC/OM sites across the city: Calgary Zoo, Glenbow Museum, Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, Fire Training Academy, Stampede Park, TELUS Spark, University of Calgary, Cross Conservation, Aero Space Museum, Ralph Klein Park, CBE Education Centre, Cardel Place or the Municipal Building.

“We are thrilled to accept this international award on behalf of all of our partners,” says Cathy Faber, CBE superintendent of learning innovation. “Their support creates learning opportunities as unique as every student.”
